"Coach-led" appears all over the MPower website, and for good reason. It shapes what a class feels like more than almost anything else. Every session is run by a trainer from start to finish, so you're never left to work out a machine or a round on your own.
This post explains what that means in practice and introduces the team. It also shares a few ways to get the most out of having a coach in the room every time you train.
What coach-led means at MPower
In a coach-led class, the trainer plans the session and demonstrates each movement. They also keep an eye on everyone while they work. At MPower, that applies to all four formats.
A few things follow from that.
You always know what to do next. The trainer runs the clock and calls the changes, so you can focus on the work instead of the plan.
Your technique gets checked. In Box, trainers teach everything from how to wrap your hands to how to throw your first jab. In Build, they coach form at every station. Small corrections early on make a big difference to how well you move and how safely you train.
You get options. MPower's trainers provide personalised attention. That means modifications for anyone who needs them and extra challenge for anyone who wants it. If an exercise doesn't suit your body that day, there's another way to do it. If you want more of a push, they can give you that too.
Someone knows your name. The studio describes its trainers as knowing members by name and adjusting to the day you're having. In a group setting, that kind of attention helps people feel welcome and keeps them coming back.
Meet the team
The studio's website describes its trainers as friendly and fun. It also mentions their extensive experience and a passion for fitness. This is how the trainers page introduces each of them.
Lucy, Studio Manager
Lucy brings expertise and a lot of motivation to every class she leads. She's all about making fitness fun and inclusive while making sure it works. That applies in high-intensity boxing just as much as in a strength circuit.
Dee, Trainer
Dee brings a dynamic approach to fitness and a warm, motivating presence to her classes. Her workouts are built to be enjoyable, and the goal is for you to leave every class feeling stronger and more confident.
Whitney, Coach & Breathwork Therapist
Whitney has over 14 years in health and wellness. Her roles include:
- fitness coach
- personal trainer
- breathwork therapist
- clinical hypnotherapist
She also has a background in Muay Thai and boxing coaching as well as yoga. The studio describes her as supportive and motivating.
Simona, Personal Trainer
Simona, or Simi to most people, is a personal trainer with a strong background in boxing and strength work. Functional training is part of her background too. She helps clients build confidence and improve performance, with a focus on lasting results.
Between them, the team covers boxing and strength along with broader health and wellness. That range suits a studio built around four different formats.
What a trainer watches for in class
While you're working, a good trainer is scanning the room for a handful of things. In boxing rounds, that might be a dropped guard or a wrist bending on impact. At strength stations it's often posture and whether the weight suits you. In every format they're also watching for signs that someone is struggling, such as unusual breathlessness or dizziness, so they can step in early. You won't always notice these checks happening, but they're a big part of why coached training feels safer than going it alone.
How to get the most out of your trainer
Having a coach in every class is only useful if you make the most of it. These habits help.
Tell them your goals
Let your trainer know what you're after. You might want to get stronger or learn to box properly. You might simply want a regular routine you enjoy. It helps them suggest which formats to focus on and when to offer you the harder or easier option.
Share any injuries or health issues before class
Check with your GP or physio first if you have an injury or a medical condition. Do the same if you're pregnant or returning after a long break. Then tell your trainer before the session starts, so they can plan modifications rather than adapting on the fly.
Ask questions
If a movement doesn't make sense, ask. If you can't tell if you're feeling an exercise in the right place, ask. Trainers would much rather answer a question than watch someone struggle in silence.
Take corrections as normal coaching
When a trainer adjusts your stance or suggests a different grip, it isn't a sign you're doing badly. Everyone gets corrected, including people who've trained for years. Each correction is a small improvement.
Give feedback
If something felt great, or something didn't work for you, mention it after class. A quick comment like "my shoulder didn't love the overhead work" or "I'd like to try a heavier weight next time" helps the trainer tailor future sessions.
Use Myzone together
MPower classes are tracked live with Myzone, a heart rate based training system that shows your effort as colour zones based on your own heart rate. Your trainer can use that information during class to see who might need a breather. It also shows them who could take on a bit more.
Why coaching matters in a group
Training alone has its place, but it's easy to fall into habits that don't help you. Some people use the same weights for months. Others skip the exercises they don't like, or let their form slip as they tire. A coach spots those patterns because they can see things you can't feel, and they'll give you a reason to try something you might otherwise avoid.
The group adds its own energy. You get the attention of a trainer along with the motivation of training alongside others. MPower's about page calls community its engine, and the coaches play a big part in building that community week to week.
Come and meet them
The best way to get to know the team is to train with them. Read more about them on the trainers page, then claim the 2 weeks free offer on the membership page. It includes two weeks of unlimited classes with a $0 joining fee. You also get free boxing gloves and a free Myzone heart rate monitor. Places are limited.
